Part 3

This was the 3rd update that Todd composed and sent out from the hospital.

Hello friends!

Oh, I love a good story.  Here's one for you.  We had two incredible surgeons who operated on Bronwyn.  We found out later that these two surgeons, during a stable moment in the operating room, were standing together praying.  In fact, the sweet female surgeon told us later that she prayed prior to the surgery and felt a great peace that "everything was going to be ok" with Bronwyn and the baby. Sure enough, our baby boy survived quite miraculously, and my wife was put back together beautifully.  Both surgeons stopped by to see Bronwyn the next day to share a tearful moment of praise and prayer with us.  It was powerful.

Bronwyn's pain has been managed well during our 6th and final stay here at Cox South Hospital. She is walking fairly freely, albeit gingerly. For having a c-section, hysterectomy and repair to her bladder surgery all in one 3 hour operation, she is rockin'!  Truly amazing how well she is doing!  And she got a SHOWER this afternoon, which felt like a day at the spa to her.

She has really enjoyed our nurses-- We've had the same nurse for the 3rd night in a row, whom we have appreciated greatly.

For me, I was fairly emotional today, probably from being so tired.  There were two separate times that I caught myself singing a worship song that was addressing a thought or fear I was feeling.  I love it when God does stuff like that.  Actually, I think He does stuff like that ALL the time in my life, but I don't even care to notice most of the time.  That's pitiful.

We will be headed home tomorrow because Bronwyn is physically ready, but it will be painful to leave our son behind.  He supposedly will have a 2-4 week stay in the N.I.C.U. (neonatal intensive care unit) to get 5 things accomplished, which are:

1.  Get rid of the morphine and other drugs used to keep him in a calm recovery state over the past 3 days.

2.  He needs to feed on his own from a bottle

3.  He needs to breathe on his own.

4.  He needs to hold his proper temperature on his own.

5.  He need gain weight consistently.

We plan on going home for a couple days and might return to Springfield to stay in a hotel or Ronald McDonald house to be close to him.

Over the last three days of hypothermia therapy, Holden has been in the best possible state for his brain to regain any loss it may have suffered when it was receiving low amounts of oxygen. Tonight at 12:30am, which is approximately 3 hours from now, the warming of Holden will commence. After his body regains its proper temperature, he will be able to show what he can do! It may take a few days for him to recover from being in this hypothermic state, but like Captain America, he shall emerge a superhero to us all.  I feel like a child on Christmas Eve!

We probably won't continue to email you daily, but will update you periodically as Holden progresses.  I can't wait to tell you how God has answered your prayers and mine. I am sure that I have not collected email addresses as I should have, so please feel free to pass this on to whomever.  May God be magnified!  We exalt His name for His sovereignty, unmistakable love, and we submit to His will with great joy.  Thank you for praying to THIS God for the health of our boy. Have we told you that we love you?  We are thankful beyond words for your prayers offered in faith, and your extravagant kindness.

Love, Todd and Bronwyn

These are the doctors who operated and prayed! From left, Dr. Mary Duff, Dr. Kristy McCall and Theresa, Dr. McCall's nurse. What a sweet meeting this was as I tearfully thanked them for their skilled work to save my life and Holden's life during surgery. God was in control!
