4/4/13

Well, it is hard to top a day like we had yesterday. So many highlights for Holden. Today wasn't quite as exciting, but still much to be thankful for. We had asked you all to pray that Holden would be able to maintain his body temperature and he is doing just that. They have moved him to a crib, so we praise God for that answered prayer.

Todd and I have been at the Ronald McDonald house since Wednesday and it has been so nice. We are right next to the hospital and I am getting lots of opportunities to rest in between feedings. I have been able to nurse Holden four times today. He is getting better and better. In fact, at his 4:30 feeding he was supposed to get 65 mL of breastmilk. So the nurses have been weighing him before I nurse, weighing him again after I nurse and then calculating how much he got from me. He had taken 58 mL from me and only needed 7 mL through his feeding tube. Hooray!

We are planning to stay in Springfield through some/ all of this weekend. My mom is doing a fantastic job of keeping the kids and the house in order. Thank you to all of you who have brought meals. It helps her a ton to have dinner provided.

Both Todd and I feel like Holden is getting so close to coming home. We are dying to ask that question, but understand that the nurses and doctors don't want to set a specific date. Holden is doing better and better all the time. We continue to be thankful for the great progress we have seen in Holden. We just met a mom at dinner who has been here for nine weeks caring for her son who is in the NICU. Nine weeks! We have only been here ten days. It compels me to pray for these other families who have really sick kids.

We are off to see Holden for his 7:30 feeding. See you later!
